Our swimming classes in St Albans cater for children of age 3 1/2 years upwards and are suitable for complete beginners through to precompetitive levels. Children progress through the stages based on ability and are not restricted by age. We are ASA certified and the awards run from Stage 1 through to Gold.
Swimmers will develop basic movement skills, water confidence and safety awareness. Swimmers will be able to use aids e.g. arm bands and floats to help complete this stage.
Swimmers will develop safe entries to the water and will continue to practice floating, travel and rotation in the water. Swimmers can still use aids e.g. arm bands and floats to help complete this stage.
Swimmers work towards being able to swim 10m on their front and back and will be able to swim underwater to collect objects from the bottom of the pool. Rotation skills and water safety knowledge will also be developed.
Swimmers will focus on refining kicking techniques for all four strokes and develop a better understanding of buoyancy.
Swimmers will focus on swimming all four strokes – Front Crawl, Back Stroke, Breast Stroke and Butterfly. Swimmers will also develop skills in sculling, treading water and complete rotation.
Swimmers will focus on developing effective swimming skills including co-ordinated breathing, water safety and an understanding of how to prepare for exercise.
Swimming lessons for adults that are beginners who want to learn to swim and for those who want to improve their technique, are thinking of taking on a swimming challenge or just for fitness.
Swimmers will develop quality stroke technique whilst swimming up to 100m.
Beginner classes for older children and teenagers
Swimming lessons for older children and teenagers that have not learnt to swim yet and don’t want to be in a class with younger children. These classes run along side our adult lessons.

The yellow submarine swim School provides a happy and safe environment for my two boys to learn to swim. The teachers are all kind and caring giving them confidence in the water. They look forward to their lessons each week and I would strongly recommend the Yellow Submarine Swim School to anyone.
A big thumbs up! Thanks Jak.- SUZIE, ZACHARY and OLIVER HAWKES
When my son joined he was very nervous in the water. Jak is very patient and as a result of her encouragement and excellent tuition, his confidence in the water has grown no end.
My daughter has now joined too and the pair of them really look forward to their swimming lessons each week.- KERSTI CLARKE
